Federal Government Scraps Post U.T.M.E, Makes Jamb Results Valid For 3 Years

Admission into higher institutions just became easier for candidates as JAMB has officially made known its decision to scrap the post-UTME. This information comes just as the Senate has passed for second reading the #JAMBBill which is to be amended to ensure that UTME results remain valid for 3 years, as opposed to the one year validity currently obtainable while .

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki made the announcement as regards increasing the validity of UTME results, stating that the bill if amended, would go a long way in reducing the financial strain on parents, and the psychological burdens on students who have secured pass marks but are unable to gain admission in the same year due to one reason or the another.

“It gives me great joy to announce that today at the Senate, we passed for Second Reading a Bill to amend the #JAMBBill. When finally amended, this piece of legislation will ensure that the JAMB results of students will be valid for up to 3 years — as opposed to the current 1 year validity period.

“However, due to several factors, hundreds of thousands of candidates that sit JAMB exams and do not secure their admission into higher institutions in the same year have to sit for the same exam the next year. This is unacceptable.” Saraki wrote.

At the 2016 JAMB Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria where the decision to scrap post-UTME was reached, JAMB also pegged the cut-off for 2016 admission to 180 which implies that while all tertiary institutions cannot go below the benchmark, they can choose to set their cut-off mark above it.

According to myschool.com.ng, the minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, expressed confidence in the ability of JAMB to conduct the university entrance examination therefore citing that there was no need for institutions to conduct another examination for admission seekers and also enjoined the body to demanding extra charges.

“180 is given, no institution will go below 180 this year, And some universities can go above it, I know University of Ife will not go below 200 and University of Lagos will not go below 200 and also UI. All these ones stand but 180 as bench mark for others.

“This year we have more than enough candidates, we have over 1.5 million candidates so we will get enough candidates to take in all the schools if they are serious. Re-distribution is already ongoing, because it is embedded in the registration procedure,”said Prof. Dibu Ojerinde after the meeting.

  1. and the price of UME forms should be reduced to the barest minimum…. AND UME board of directors should compensate all past UME applicants for the constitutional fraud they enjoyed for decades….When an external organisation based in Nigeria defraud people, they are heavily penalised, but when a local institution defraud common people, no real penalty but just darn ordinary change of policy…It seems Nigerian political representatives detest justice to the core..
