Mayra Rosales had been bedridden for years and totally dependent on her family to care for all of her needs. She weighed 1,028 pounds.
She had lost her son in 2008.
Her sister was then unable to care for her own two children, so Mayra wanted to assume responsibility for them. However, it would mean needing to be able to function independently in her own life.
Mayra made the commitment to a dramatic weight loss surgery. The first step was getting a team of medical professionals to physically move her to the hospital.
She would undergo 11 surgeries to reduce her weight.
She had a lap band bariatric surgery and her extra skin removed.
But the hardest part was learning to exercise and eat in a healthy way.
She lost 100 pounds in the first 10 days.
She doesn’t even look like the same person.
What’s even more amazing is that she suffered no internal damage from her excess weight.
Today she is healthy and happy. She appears on TV talk shows to share her inspiring story with others.
