The male voice in the leaked sex-for-mark audio which emanated from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife on Monday, is that of Reverend Richard Akindele of the school’s Faculty of Administration, the lecturer’s church members have said.
According to Premiumtimes, Akindele, a Professor of Management and Accounting, is also a minister in the church. Before the church members spoke, several students and staff of Mr Akindele’s department revealed that the male voice was that of the embattled teacher.
It was also gathered that the lady who nailed him is a final year student, who failed a course taught by him. Repeated efforts to get the lecturer’s reaction have not been successful since Monday.
He is yet to publicly speak on the scandal. PT went to his church on Tuesday to speak to members on the controversy surrounding the professor. One of the members, said: “There is no need for any computer to test the voice.
The voice in the leaked audio is exactly that of Reverend Richard Akindele. However, the man is too gentle for such act. The lady purposely set him up.”
Through an interview with another member, it was gathered that co-worshippers visited Akindele’s residence Tuesday morning but met only his wife, who reportedly blamed the devil for her pastor “husband’s trouble.”
The source, a woman, said: “We were at his house very early this (Tuesday) morning but only met his wife who said the devil is at work to soil the name of her husband.”
A cleric in the church who simply identified himself as Reverend Adeola said: “Although, the voice I heard is that of Reverend Akindele, I doubt he can do that. I’m not in best position to speak. But what I can say for free is that I know him to be a man of God, generous and easy going.”
A press conference earlier slated to hold was cancelled by the V.C of OAU, Vice Chancellor, Eyitope Ogunbodede, on Tuesday.

Please read my comments above. You have been able to identify why their has been a lowering of the standards in our graduates. Most have not burnt the midnight oil to justify their qualifications. Therefore their diction, spoken English is appalling. There is a lot of typographical and grammatical errors in simple letter writing and correspondence. Male students have been known to bribe their lecturers with girlfriends, prostitutes and short term hotel rooms to pass their courses.
There is very unlikely to be a court case in the present matter. At most there would be a Disciplinary hearing into a suspected abuse of authority by the lecturer. This may result in his suspension or sack, as he had done a similar deed a few years ago. Those who gave him a soft landing last time may be unwilling to assist this time.
No crime has been committed and he would not be charged to court. If indeed he slept with the girl, who appeared to be on friendly and cosy terms with him on the audio, it is a matter of two adults doing what comes naturally between opposite sexes.
However, he would continue to be married to his long suffering and embarrassed wife. His sex life at home will now be none existent. He may decide to become a full time Pastor to earn a living from now on.
The embarrassed lecturer is still writing his thesis on how to extricate himself from the sex scandal that he his the protagonist here. The wife, in this case, has no choice but to come out openly to stylishly plead for mercy on behalf of the husband for him to be given a soft landing, if found guilty. There’s so much rot in the school system begging for general overhauling. And except a holistic step is taken to cleanse the system , we shall all live to mourn the death of our once exhalted citadel of academic excellence across the nation.
I want Nigerians to seriously demand accountability from OAU they should know that this incident holds their reputation in balance ,although this kind of incidents happens in a lot other universities, thiers is now under the microscope and an example must be made ,the Nigerian education and its future lies in this outcome, a lot people may not see it now, others may even go as far a clamoring for the incident to be kept under the carpet to save the prof’s name or in the name of church or “OUR OWN” but make no mistake ,this one of the rear opportunity the girl child sexual challenges actually got attention nationally ,and if the country sends the wrong message, no lady will ever refuse a demand for sex nor report same ,
