rashidi-Yekinis-mother-1

I first heard the name Rashidi Yekini when I barely knew how to scrub myself in the bathroom.

Few years down the line, I knew him as the first Nigerian footballer to score Nigeria’s first goal at the World Cup in 1993. He went on to score 37 goals in his 24-year career as a Nigerian International.

The international star passed on in 2012, suffering from bipolar disorder, depression and some other undisclosed psychiatric condition. He left behind an aged mother who had nothing to live on despite her late son’s success.

Recently, the Senate President Nigeria extended a helping hand to the star’s mother. He rehabilitated her living conditions and almost failing petty business. Truly if each one can reach one, then each one can change one. Check out the before and after pictures:

Sentiments aside, some people would blame the government for this but one question I want to ask is was rashidi yekini not paid for his services to Nigeria?? And was he not paid in his international clubs ?? What happened to all his money? Was he cursed ? I don’t mean to disrespect one of Nigeria’s greatest footballer but then I think the ones alive should learn from this mistake some of them spend money clubbing they buy expensive cars and even buy private jets this same calamity falls on out artists , musicians, actors and actress some people don’t even have as much opportunity as they have but yet they turn drops of water to bucket of water we need to pass a message to our youths that it’s good to save for rainy days, it’s good to save during the day because the night will surely come, even the bones gets weaker and the strength shrinks, the eyes gets dimmer and finally we return to our maker but what would you be remembered for??

Thanks to the Senate president for doing this. Please sir, consider some other thing in your life to repent of and see how God will have mercy on you. No condemnation for anyone that ready to repent and make his or her ways pure before God Almighty. Once again thanks on your generosity to Mama Rashidi Yekini… Let’s remember Samuel Oparaji mother too and many others. God bless Nigeria…

  8. Abegi, he only did that to gain attention, so Nigerians can say he is good, meanwhile, he is a very corrupt treasury looter like the others. He did it with Nigeria’s money and she deserves it

@ Angel Godsegun Samuel E. U are actually right coz piple like 2 blame govt 4 everything whereas d stars demselves are 2 be blamed. But in d case of Rashidi Yekini, I ll suggest u google his story b4 his death. U ll understand better.

  15. Shamusideen Ismaila

I cld remember vividly when Sam died, it was announced dat his family be given an amnt of money(d money is huge but I can’t recollect). But I don’t know if d family actually recieved d money.

  16. My question is.
What was rasheedi Yekini doing when he was alive????
Why he allow his mother to live in that kind of house after he has all those wealth when he was alive?????

  17. Onyeka Gift Ijeh

This my country self dey tire me, which one is amazing transformation, you think with this house transformation this woman will be happy each she remembers that her son who brought glory to Nigeria was abandoned when he was suffering? How much did they even spend for this transformationonsense sorry transformation? And believe me na here e stop o, how the woman will eat will not concern them, this is what I called “Eye service” abeg make dem gerrarohere make I see road, no be only transformation na transformer. The same person who transformed the house was there when yekini needed help, he didn’t transform him to a better life. Ori oda. I rest my case jor.

  18. Rasheed yekini build that house you are seeking in the picture for his mother alone. How many of us on this platform can build house for their parents?

  19. Stephine Eseosa

When I saw this foto, exactly all you said was what go through all my mind, people have made money in this life but had lavished it on things that are not meaningful, buy big cars, club, girls, and outings with some sycophants friends, at the end they ends in penury, too bad, this mistake we igbos don’t usually fall on it.

  21. Adediji Oluwatofunmi

what nonsense are you talking now Nwanneka? igbos dont usually fall on it? Ewu. tribal bigot. anybody can go broke irrespective of tribe. stop saying nonsense

  22. Onyeka Gift Ijeh

Oswald Bimpeh Kumeni my brother, remember he became inactive due to his problem, there are issues that may deal with someone and the person will have no option but to sell all he has to solve such issues, yekini had been having loads of problems including mental illness, the government should’ve helped him but he was left alone, a whole talented footballer who have done well for his country

  23. Moronfayo Olaniyi Seven-seven

How many years ago are we talking about?… How old are were you then @Angel Segun?… Tell me your age then. Before I wl cont with you…

  24. Adebowale Adesakin

Rashidi have alote of property that can take care of his mother only that the lawyer in charge of his property is not been sincere with his mother and stop saying nonsence

  25. Oluwakemi Kesington Toogun

All good but what did he do with all his football earnings? Why could he not sort his mum out? But it is well.

  26. what do u mean by his lower is not sincere to his mother? do he just go to bed and he didn’t weak up again without been sick?y cant him let his people kn all about him in time.

  27. Seems like Rashid was not interested in material wealth why he never built a better house when he was making money in Europe

  28. Nnagbo Alfred Ani

Ok, Saraki is a Smooth criminal, he is on trial of stealing Nigerian Money Millions of $$ Dollar , then he sneaked out to spend less tha $900 on a mother of a well known guy for everyone, mostly the short sighted to say eyaaa that man is A good man… Abeg if anyone her knows Saraki or close to him, please tell him that I said Thunder with Mtn sim card will strike him 2wice in a day… Onye ara Abuja

  29. This is d house Rashidi Yekini build 4 d mother in his home town IRA,Kwara state.if any

  31. Prince Chuks Nworu

Let the others looters emulate from him, we need something good from them no matter the looting

  32. Adeolu Alex Ladimeji

Thank you x imagine Saraki deserves no praise, people like Saraki one way or the other is partly responsible for the poverty this woman is experiencing, not only her millions are in this woman’s shoe, we only talk of our culture here in Africa otherwise. How was that a responsibility of Rashidi to be taking care of his mum when her mum is a citizen of Nigeria, she ought to benefit from Nigeria but for people like Saraki who swindled billions of dollars meant for the citizens .

  33. Adeolu Alex Ladimeji

Not a direct causation though, people like Saraki was one of those who swindled billions of dollars meant for this woman and millions of others and put the nation into conditions where the state can not be responsible for her citizens in the first place. To me Saraki is a criminal and deserve no commendation for spending couple of thousands on this woman, it should have been the job of a state where state functions, state does not function because of people like Saraki. We are talking of yekinis mum when many many thousands like her are in the country suffering same faith because of actions or inactions of people like Saraki.
