Dangote

Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote group, is now richer than Donald Trump, Republican front runner; Roman Abramovich, owner of Chealsea football club and Oprah Winfrey, the richest black woman, put together.Dangote, who came in at the 51st position of the 2016 ranking by Forbes Magazine, is also richer than the combination of all other Nigerians who made the list.

Despite losing $300 million from $15.7 billion (N3.1 trillion) to about $15.4 billion, (N3.05 trillion) in the latest rankings, Dangote remains the richest black billionaire anywhere on the planet.

At $15.4 billion, the 58-year-old is richer than Abramovich ($7.6 billion), Oprah ($3.0 billion) and Trump $4.5 billion.

The Nigerians who made the list are Mike Adenuga ($10 billion), Femi Otedola ($1.8 billion), Folorunsho Alakija ($1.6 billion) and Abdulsamad Rabiu ($1.1 billion), who came in at 103, 1,011, 1,121 and 1,577 respectively.

Nigerian billionaires on the list
Bill Gates remains the richest person in the world with a net worth of $75 billion, “despite being $4.2 billion poorer than a year ago. He has been No. 1 one for 3 years in a row and topped the list 17 out of 22 years”.

Amancio Ortega moves up to the second spot for the first time, displacing Mexico’s Carlos Slim, who slips number four, while Warren Buffett remained steady in third position.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg had the best year of all billionaires, the 31-year-old adding $11.2 billion to his fortune and moved up 10 places from 16 to the sixth spot.

The global economic volatility and plunge in commodity prices also affected the billionaires’ list, as the 16 billionaires fell of the list.

“Volatile stock markets, cratering oil prices and a stronger dollar led to a dynamic reshuffling of wealth around the globe and a drop in ten-figure fortunes for the first time since 2009,”Forbes said.

“For our 30th annual guide to the world’s richest, we found 1,810 billionaires, down from a record 1,826 a year ago. Their aggregate net worth was $6.48 trillion, $570 billion less than last year.

“It was also the first time since 2010 that the average net worth of a billionaire dropped – it is now $3.6 billion, $300 million less than last year.”

Alakija was negatively affected by the fall in oil prices, while Dangote took a hit due to a fall in the Nigerian currency, naira.

“Her first company was a fashion label that catered to Nigeria’s elite women, including the wife of former military president, Ibrahim Babangida, who awarded Alakija’s company an oil prospecting license. Alakija’s net worth has fallen in the past year as a result of lower oil prices,” Forbes said.

As Africa’s largest cement producer, Dangote owns about 90 percent of publicly-traded Dangote Cement through a holding company, a percentage that exceeds the 80 percent ownership ceiling set by the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

In 2015, Dangote and 61 others were richer than 3.5 billion people around the world.

  1. investment in a territory where exploitation is legal often accelerate investors wealth….Certain questions will explain why Dangote is so opulent. ..Does Nigeria have a valid labour law? How sincere are labour unionist reps? Is the gvt in favour of common people or investors? How committed is the so called Dangote to human development initiatives? If you find valid answers to these questions, you will understand why Dangote is more privileged compared to western investors mentioned above.

Forbes do know very well how
    Dangote is making his dubious
quid, still they will enlist him as
    Africa’s richest man because it’s
just another way of fooling and
    mocking the whole continent and
their mostly poverty stricken inhabitants !!
Just take a look alone from where the Dangote
himself originates from and y’all know what i’m
talking about …, a wealthy man amongst multitude of wretched folks coupled with serious decaying economy, upon all his investments !!!

  11. Hanssen Gregory

I love this man, because he is not building university, Hotel and shopping mall every where like others.. Higher institutions in Nigeria is more than needed.. there are alot of other businesses to invest in, but they preferred cheap manageable business.. that doesn’t require smart thinking..

  12. Davis D. Davis

Obabenmiv Mivourine Benjamin , don’t mind the idiot and his insult. He’s rich no doubt about that, but his brothers are the most baggers in all the streets in Nigeria. If his richness does not benefit the poor and the needy, then his wealth is zero

  14. If you are the one who imports the sugar, rice, cement and other commodities that over 180 million people are using, why would you not be rich?

Monkey clever na bcos tree near tree but not only one tree, you go no say monkey na mumu. Lets remove the stolen from our past generals, past presidents & other political class, then we will know who owns what. Did you see the name of Donald Trump in the Panama paper? Please compare Trump with genuine business men and not any how person.

  33. Forbes doesn’t give a damn how dangote makes his money as long as he’s not a govt functionary or in public service

  34. we don’t know anything yet. nothing, I repeat absolutely nothing stops dangote from becoming d lord’s richest man. with his already existing cement factories, tank cars, proposed and soon to be operational oil refineries, pipelines and rail systems in d offing, another centobillionaire in d timber and caliber of john davison Rockefeller in d making

  35. Mohammed Danyerwa

So in your village you don’t have any other rice, cement and sugar apart from dongote’s.Envy will kill you! For your info dangote has not been in the rice business for over 10 Years until recently when he decided to farm the product at jigawa and other areas.

  36. Charles Chinedu Iwediuno Vincent

  41. Charles Chinedu Iwediuno Vincent

OG Quincy Pac .., i knew very well that’s
what’s going to come out from someone,
it’s either someone says ,” jealousy or one
is bitter ” .., but unfortunately that’s the way
most of y’all reason, that false mentality !!!
Because most of y’all fail to reason right and
see far beyond. Don’t you know that, such
publications or articles do actually have negative
effects on societies, especially like in Nigeria ??
    These prominent Nigerian so-called celebrities,
are supposed to be known and praised for positive
things they do for their folks and communities, not
    being ” Womanizers ” .., Straight and Simple !!!

  42. Charles Chinedu Iwediuno Vincent

OG Quincy Pac … and bro, i can’t be bitter or jealous whatsoever, because none of them ain’t feeding me
and they can’t feed me, i do live pretty good myself
and can afford my life needs .., i’m talking about the
morals and they ought to present themselves to the
public as true and good ” role models ” !!!!

  43. That news about zuckerberg is fake. sure he’s a philanthropist but he didn’t give out 90% of his wealth to any charity. come to think of it, he gave out 90% and still the 6th richest worth (44.6 billion) You are just one of those that believes in Fake Facebook news.
