According to Vanguard A fully-loaded plane was forced to abort landing on Thursday at Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, when the pilot discovered that the runway had been invaded by cows.
According to Vanguard, the Air Peace plane hovered around the airport until the runway was cleared by the airport security.
Passengers of the flight were reported to be frightened during the event, as they didn’t know the reason for the pilot’s action. But on hearing that a major disaster had been averted as the landing runway had been taken over by cattle, they applauded the pilot.
The plane was however said to have been slightly damaged, with passengers suffering shock.
Vanguard reports that this isn’t the first time a major airport runway was invaded by cows. The Port Harcourt International Airport runway was some time ago invaded by cows and an approaching Air France plane collided with some of the cows. The Federal Government took responsibility for the damage of the aircraft and made funded its repair.
