The Lagos Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has signed into law Life Imprisonment ordeath penalty for the offence of Kidnap and forceful extortion in Lagos State as he signs into law the state kidnapping prohibition bill, 2016.
The law provides for death penalty for kidnappers whose victims die in their custody, and life imprisonment for the act of kidnapping.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Lagos State House of Assembly passed the bill on January 5.
The governor said that the law was enacted to address key issues bordering on security.
He said that kidnapping had become a major threat to the safety of residents and, therefore, required decisive action by the government.
“This law imposes a penalty of life imprisonment for kidnapping for ransom.
“The law stipulates that, where a victim dies in the course of kidnapping, the suspect is liable on conviction to death.
“Security is of utmost importance to our administration, and we are confident that this law will serve as a deterrent to anybody, who may desire to engage in this wicked act within the boundaries of Lagos State.
“Our justice system will be required to execute this law in absolute and make sure that any criminal caught faces the full wrath of the law,” he said.
Based on this, it is very likely, George Evans gets a life imprisonment or death penalty sentence.
Yesterday Evans was asked on his future and he had this to say:
“I lived a simple life although I had money. My neighbors thought that I was a businessman. On the day I was arrested, I had this strange feeling.
So I decided to stay indoors. I regret all my actions. As you can see I am reading my Bible, particularly the book of Lamentation. I don’t know what faith holds in stock for me with Lagos State’s laws on kidnapping.”
I feel pity on but life is a chance. One today two tomorrow he must face the law but looking at the country there worst people in the country that have done more dangerous things. Let God handle is case. Just Keep him and let him revealed secret the

I dont think Evans deserves death. Pls as individuals just check in your mind some of the terrible things some of us are doing that is killing others indirectly before thinking of firing squad for Evan. I am not in support of criminals but Evans deserves a second chance. Remember he was an expert in the field meaning he was very intelligent meaning if he had gone to school he could have excel. God day my fellow brothers and sisters. I am so concerned about this case of Evans and the business he was into. After hearing, watching videos and seeing pictures of the whole story, i thought it wise and good as God’s servant to say this. It is simply my own oppinion. To every situations in life it is always good to know what God says. The way men may judge this case might not be the same way God takes it. If any man amongst those officials have never killed an innocent soul or collected money from people by force, may they touch this man’s hair or take his life. The laws of the government are not the laws of God.
