Aftermath and Trial
At the request of Olusegun Obasanjo, then President of Nigeria, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was created by the Nigerian Parliament in 2002.[11] In February 2004, Amaka Anajemba, Emmanuel Nwude, Emmanuel Ofolue, Nzeribe Okoli, and Obum Osakwe, with Christian Anajemba deceased at this point, were all arrested and charged in the Abuja High Court with 86 counts of “fraudulently seeking advance fees” and 15 counts of bribery related to the case. They pleaded not guilty. They were immediately warned off of bribing the court staff by Abuja High Court Judge Lawal Gumi, after he alleged that money was going around.

The defense team assured that “nothing would be done to bring scandal to the administration of justice.” Four Nigerian companies, Fynbaz, Emrus, Ocean Marketing and the African Shelter Bureau also faced charges and pleaded not guilty. In July 2004, Judge Lawal Gumi threw out the case, claiming that since the crime did not take place in Abuja, he had no jurisdiction, and said that the proper place for the case would be the Lagos High Court. The defendants were immediately rearrested after stepping outside the courthouse and the case was moved to Lagos. In 2005, Emmanuel attempted to bribe Nuhu Ribadu, then head of the commission, with $75,000 cash. He was charged in connection with the attempted bribery in addition to the attempted kidnapping of a prosecution witness. In July 2005, Amaka Anajemba admitted to helping Anajemba and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison and ordered to repay $25.5 million.

  7. The real effect of 1914 illegal amalgamation is the highest dupe on earth that has resort to criminal life. Nigerians are trained to survive by Looting, scamming, corruption, illegal arrest, kidnapping, cultism rapping bribery, etc. Who is a saint? The real criminal is the Air Port buyer. Nigeria is an estate of corruption for the buyers and the sellers. Nigerian citizens especially the victims of Amalgamation are on life survival mission instead of suicidal life end. If only Britain will allow Nigeria be themselves in this 21st century. Mr. Emmanuel Nwude is qualified to head the EFCC and can be useful to transform our economy and create jobs but he must promise us not to sell off the Aso Rock.

  9. Why the noise here, please my people. We’ve problems with our bad economy, and you guys are here killing and quarrelling over who has made his own way the way he likes and enjoys it, instead of praying and asking God to give us a better hand that can govern these multitude of a nation called Nigeria?

  11. my brother`s and sister`s please leave this young man please because he learning from our federal GOVERNMENT, so what are you talk about.

  12. A CASE AGAINST DECENTRALIZATION OF LAW ENFORECMENT.

As Nigeria marks three years of Chibok Girls Disappearance. It is my argument that the propensity of criminal groups to deploy violence increases when formal or informal political institutions are decentralized because, violent criminal organizations are less likely to be punished under such decentralization of law enforcement. Under decentralized institutional environments, understood here as those in which different levels of Nigerians government law enforcement institutions fail to act cohesively as a single decision-making body, it will follow from such disfunctional situation that corruption “agreement’ with one level of government (L.G level, State level or Federal level) will inevitably inhibit law enforcement operations conducted by the other level.
For example, if F.G torolates Fulani Herdsmen, such will cripple affected LG ability to fight them. Similarly if State A or B torolates local gangs violent against certain group, such will inhibit LG or FG ability to fight such crime and visa vis. As a result, belligerent criminal organizations like -Boko Haram in the Northern Nigeria, 419 fraudsters and kidnappers, oil thieves in South East, or Campus cultism across Nigeria- that would other-wise be punished remain untouched and grows from strenght to strenght.
This argument sheds light on why many criminal organizations in Nigeria are able to operate profitably with or without major episodes of violence, and illuminates the causes of Nigeria´s large increases in gangster or mafia-related related violence like kidnapping, 419, terrorism and campus cultism, to name but few.
But I submit here that a general (not just EFCC) nation-wide coordinated form of fighting all crimes that is devoid of decentralization would fight crime better. This brings us to the vessed issue of improving the neglected institutions in Nigeria most notably the law enforcement apparatus as encompassed by the Judiciary system.
Whilst decentralization is good for our democracy however everything cannot be decentralized for the sake of decentralization.

  13. What happened to lazy people that high jacked the oil wells in the south and shared it among themselves with British loot and share agreement. You are here blaming someone that made it on international level. Shame on your norther Nigeria.
