Late Legendary Nigerian Footballer Rashidi Yekini’s Mother Now Sells Bread For Survival

IMG_71313819899127

SRSport.com gathered from a source in Kwara State who revealed that life has been pretty difficult for the Yekini’s family since the death of the former African football king.

It was also gathered that Alhaja Sidikat cried out for help few months ago, after revealing that ‘life has been difficult for her’ since the passing of her son.

“My son has served this country, and I want the government and other people to come to our aid because It would not be good for me to die in this situation,” she pleaded.

Yekini scored 37 goals in 58 appearances for the Super Eagles and died in May 2012 at the age of 48. He remains the highest goal scorer for the Super Eagles with 37 goals and represented Nigeria in five major tournaments, including two FIFA World Cup competitions in USA ‘94 and France ‘98 respectively.

where is kanu .. okocha nd Steven keshi ?

  3. There’s no reason anybody should live or be subjected to poverty unless he or she chooses otherwise. The biggest challenge facing our nationa till date remains greed and unemployment.
There’s no reason that old lady should be like that, though I believe we have to get up and do a days job… it helps with our mental wellbeing.
If we have a system that works, where government creates employment, people have jobs and pay taxes… I guess we should have a welfare system. This old lady should not scramble for food, our retired teachers and civil servants wouldn’t have to queue up in their verious local govt. headquarters begging for their entitlements.
Rashidi remains a legend but the reason for his mum’s and other poverty related issues is as a result of wrong decisions by our decision makers. I read an article earlier on how to restrain the activities of the herdsmen around the south east states and a politician actually suggested the importation of grass for the caws….
Shame on us a nation… 80% of your citizens are roaming around the streets aimlessly and someone is still talking importation… how about job creation??? How do you intend building an economic if everything depends on importation and no export???

  36. Onyebuchi Ezeike

You guys should first ask what type of person Rashidi was. London Bouyant rashidi played in Europe. So are you telling me they give him orange and glucose when they are giving others money weekly allowance???? Stop saying what you don’t know. In Portugal after date he was celebrated. I now dey reason with the mad rumors then and him leaving his mother poor. #thinking what would have happened to all his money.

  37. Onyebuchi Ezeike

Nigeria has got nothing to do with this !He made so much in Portugal during his time. If they have account number they open it for people with good heart to help the old mama. I feel hurt for her. If dead man deserved to call names I will call him one.

  38. Olatunde Wahab Olayiwola

    Lol true U0001f639U0001f639U0001f639

  39. Onyebuchi Ezeike

Nigeria got nothing to do with this !He made money in Portugal during his time or dose it means they give him orange and glucose when they are giving others money weekly allowance????. If they have account number they open it for people with good heart to help the old mama. I feel hurt for her. If dead man deserved to call names I will call him one for letting her mother to be in this condition after his big name in Europe as a footballer. Where ever you are try to be friendly no one knows tomorrow.

  40. Its sad her son should have took care of her while he was living and making money or at least life insurance. But now the football company he played for should help. It is a disgrace for an elder.

  41. Frank Underwood

I am not a Nigerian but I will comment on a general sense.Nigerians I know you love to blame your government. If rashidis mother is selling bread it’s whose fault? How does it concern buhari and his government? When u make money and u don’t lay the foundation for times like this not only your mama go sell bread but your children too will. His financial mismanagement is not you,I or the government’s business.

  42. That is what bad belle people wanted, to see that woman suffer. I hope they are enjoying it now.

  43. Regiee Omo T Lawrence u really knw am.i rest my case

  44. ForFun Comedian

People are here saying that government should intervene because Rashidi served d country………. Plz government should come and intervene too in my own condition cos I served d country too. Abi which other serving d Nation pass NYSC??? Mtcheww yeye dey smell…. Rashidi was rich and paid well

  45. Am not a Nigeria too but i agreed with u bro.
Now this shows so far as there no foundation built down, his children will also grow n sell pure water on streets. RIP Rashid.

  46. Sulemana Lasiche

Oh no so wentwed to hear dat d mom is an arm robber or what what is worry with she selling it

  47. This days the media dont provide the right information to pple. ….i wish it’s not true.

  48. Morenikeji S. Dammy

The way some people analyse people they don’t even know it makes me weep at our reasoning… the questions are simple, do u know rasheed so well? Have u met him one on one before? Have u had any dealings with him before? Do u even know someone close to him? Do u know him down to his families? If u can honestly answer this questions then u can judge him but if u can’t even answer one dt all u know about him is based on what the media sells to u and u come here and judge him then shame on u.

  49. God always provides

  50. What’s wrong with someone trying to survive without stealing? Who tell you that she is poor??? Are you the one feeding her??? You people should get a Job and get busy!!!! I’m proud of her! If other Nigerians will be self sufficient like her, every body will be living a good life. I’m proud of you mama…. God will always bless you. You are now famous…. Life is beautiful. To all the good mothers

  51. Michael Omotayo Okuyelu

You guys should stop saying what you don’t know. From a reliable source Rashid yekini when alive didn’t even take care of his parent. He was so ashamed to associate himself with them, that he had to hire people to pose as his parent when getting married. He refused going home to see them even when he was in nigeria for international matches. Like I said it from a close people from the family I heard these long ago. Whatever situation she’s now it was because Rashidi Yekini refuse to take of dem when alive. I hope he’s regreting this in his grave.

  59. Egbuna Chinedu

Some people till today don.t even take good care of the mother but they can spend 50000 on they girl friend, are we also going to bream Govt for that. Pls every body should try and taking very good care of they mother no matter how little it may be. Don.t wait for ur other brother or sis, it bring blessing for us. Thank u all may God bless each and every One of us.

  60. You talk nonsense but when he was putting your country on the map you were so happy and pleased. You expect Rashid to help his mom even when he is in his grave?Do you know all his private life how do you know his money was not mismanaged after his illness

  61. Daniel Dove Williams

Our country don,t know they meaning of legendary , even our president don,t they meaning too, so sad a mother of a legend is now a bread seller on they street,

  62. If i have a son thats a professional football player i will prefer him to play for uganda than nigeria because nigerian football federation is full of gredy knuckleheads…

Thanks big bros pls help the poor woman don’t mond people that condemn her how wish i have i could have do thesame

  82. Olabisi Kayode

It show that his illitrate son live a useless life, he failed to invest the money and elevated his family from poverty, this is not the fault of the government, football is a private business, he played and collected money for his services, he didn’t play for free, so why show govt look after all this family, how many players in Nigeria or around the world, if govt should be looking after there wellbeing, what will be left for the society? Players salary is big enough to cater for there family anyone that fail to do so that’s his fault.

  83. Adeyanju Adekanmi Majeed

  95. Toyin Olubusto Okeowo

Something must be fundamentally wrong with that family. Yekini almost became a recluse and he eventually died a poor man. This is not an issue for the government. Instead the big boys footballers should come together and help the woman.
