It is not news that people have defended Lionel Messi’s subdued performances at the 2014 World Cup that ended on Sunday with
Germany beating Argentina 1-0.
But when the name of Messi’s defender is Jose Mourinho – then it is news.
Mourinho, who was an ESPN analyst in Brazil said: “He [Messi] sacrificed himself for the good of the team.
“He was more focused on winning the tournament than being its best player. I saw him playing in areas of the pitch where he doesn’t usually play. “He dropped deep and picked up the ball a long way from the opposition’s goal.
It is baffling because almost all of the Portuguese’s career, he has called Barcelona players actors and not shown them any respect at all.
“Messi has my utmost respect for what he did at the World Cup”, Mourinho added.
“Playing football for your country is different to playing for your club. If he’d wanted to show just how good he is he’d have played tucked in behind HiguaIn, waiting for that moment to change the game,” he concluded.
Jose Mourinho believes Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella’s tactical switch at half time had a negative impact on star man Lionel Messi.
Messi failed to make a significant impact in the World Cup final defeat to Germany and Mourinho believes that is because the side was unbalanced in the second half.
Messi did have one good chance to give his side the lead in the second half, dragged his shot wide.
i think messi is still the best than ronaldo
