A four-man armed robbery gang on Wednesday, February, 22, stormed Zenith Bank branch along Wetheral road Owerri, Imo state capital, injuring three police men and five bank customers. One of the armed robbers (pictured on the ground) was gunned down. However, reports by eyewitnesses said three people died in the attack.
According to Ifeanyi Njoku, it gathered that the four armed robbery gang arrived the bank with an ash colour Toyota Camry. Eyewitnesses were skeptical about the success of the gang in carting away money as action of policemen attached to the bank who swiftly responded by gunning down one of the gang foiled the successful operation by the robbers.
The Spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, Mr Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the incident, said that security operatives arrived at about 1510hrs, on getting a distress call that the bank was under attack.
The command were said to have mobilised their men, a combined team of Police led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Taiwo Lakanu, and other detectives to the scene that prevented the armed robbers from stealing money.
“On Arrival, the operatives engaged the four armed robbers that arrived the bank with an ash colour Toyota Camry in a shoot out. At the end of the shoot out, three Police men sustained various degrees of gun shot injuries”. the PPRO said.
“One of the armed robbers was shot dead and one AK47 Rifle with 100 rds of Ammunition that was earlier snatched from a policeman on 24/11/2016 was recovered from the dead armed robber with three magazines.” he added.
“Other robbers escaped with serious gun shot injuries and the wounded Policemen are receiving treatment in the hospital. Police operatives is intensifying patrols for the arrest of the fleeing robbers. The robbers could not gain entrance into the banking hall following the swift response of Police operatives”. he concluded.

I think the story goes well because we never saw what happened when those two robbers came down and went towards the person they took money from. Definitely their must be security agent at the entrance to the banking hall cuz the video didn’t show how the collected the money from the person they trailed down to the bank so I believe the story line still goes with it.
Nigerians will always want to talk so that they will say they contributed… Robbery premises you were not there , Amount of people killed, you are not aware, just because you watched the front view of the robbery incidence. . You have now concluded that only one person died… For your info, the man that was trailed to that bank was killed.. 2 other security officials were killed, but the one that shot the robber Dead didn’t die.. They went away with the money.. And they were later caught.. The one on the floor there is one of the Robbers… Watch and understand.. To read na problem, to watch again na problem?… Niegerians

Stop the baseless argument.. First and foremost, one CCTv camera can not cover the entire perimeter of the building, when the bandits came down , they attacked the vitim from the first car, obviously their would be other pple there including security/door man as the case may be.
Secondly, the man that gunned down one of the bandits is definitely a police man, policemen attached to banks don’t put on unoforms and ordinary security men don’t use AK riffles.

What a broad day lies! Chai! Who is lieing between police and report?
Going by the video, the robbers succeeded in killing the victim because we can see one of them making away with a black bag which he didn’t have when they arrived. The robber that died was shot from the small security house by the gate so we can assume that there were security men in there who shot the robber and in turn were shot by same robber. Camera also showed that one of the security men succeeded in coming out of that security post but may have been killed by the other robber who was in the back seat who followed him when he ran into the area not covered by the camera.
So it’s safe to analyse that 3 security men (2 inside and 1 that ran outside), the victim that was robbed and one of the robbers that died on the spot make up the list of five dead people. Also, from the video, the vehicle the robbers arrived in was a Honda Civic.
Correction, vehicle looks like a black Hyundai Elantra and not a Honda Civic. And if you watch closely, you’ll notice that same car had driven past the bank gate then reversed before approaching the gate. Also noticed that the victim may have been a man in white long sleeve sweater who had earlier entered on foot clutching a black bag under his armpits a minute before those evil men who apparently were trailing him arrived.
Thank God they were arrested.

it is certain that 5 people were dead, which are 1. the customer who had the money they took, 2. two security men( the people that assist at the bank entrance making it 3) 4. the fearless armed robber in blue polo right on the floor. 5. then the police officer that really did a good job.
is unfortunate that the bank and NPF can not help the shot police officer’s family of 8 including the wife who can’t even provide for them(kids). from the picture of the two suspects, they are supposed to be 3. help find the one who shut the customer.
