During the genocide in Rwanda, the Hutu targeted IIibagiza’s tribe, killing an estimated 1 million, mostly Tutsi.

Today, Valentine is now happy married with two children.
On 26th May 1994, I found &took Valentine Ilibagiza from thousands of dead bodies in Nyarubuye convent, where she had survived for 43 days! It was & remains a miracle to me, 24yrs on. She is alive with a family –husband, daughter & son. “Ubu ndaseka (I can smile)” she told me!
