Black Stars of Ghana will take on the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire in the final match of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
Ivory Coast defeated Congo DR 3 – 1 in the first semifinal clash to book their spot in the final while Ghana defeated the host nation, Equatorial Guinea 3 – 1 last night to reach the final.
The final match will be played on Sunday, February 8, 2015 as a new champion is expected to replace the Super Eagles of Nigeria which failed to qualify for the tournament initially billed to host in Morocco before the North African country pulled out due to fears of an Ebola outbreak.
It is the first time Ghana and Ivory Coast are meeting at the final of AFCON after 23 years ago. And the last they clashed in the final, at the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal, Ivory Coast defeated Ghana 11 – 10 on penalties to emerge champions of Africa.
