5 Police Officers Arrested For Torturing Innocent Man To Death In Sokoto

Police-Accidental-Discharge

The police in Sokoto State has arrested five members of the mobile police force attached to the 7 PMF command in the state for allegedly torturing a man, Yahaya Shehu, to death.

It was gathered that the officers were on patrol along the Isa-Sabon-Birni road, when they arrested Shehu and his friend Bashar Nahantsi, who were on their way to Teke Market in Sabon-Birni Local Government Area from Shinkafi in the neighbouring Zamfara State, for an undisclosed offence.

While Nahantsi was lucky to escape, Shehu’s body was reportedly found in a nearby bush the following morning.

Confirming the incident, the State Commissioner of Police,Salisu Fagge, said the suspects have been arrested.

“It is true that the mobile police officers who were alleged to have killed the deceased had been arrested by the command. They are now being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.

I am assuring the family of the deceased that nobody is above the law and the affected police officers will be charged to court. They will be duly prosecuted if found guilty.”

Police brutality is taking an alarming dimension in the country with many young Nigerians killed at the hands of the police who are meant to protect them.

A few days ago, six policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, Lagos State, were arrested for the cold blooded murder of a young man, Emmanuel Orimisan, in the Ilaje-Ajah area of the state.

Just last month, justice was served when a Police Inspector,Samuel Timothy, was sentenced to death for murdering an innocent sachet water dealer, Onyekachi Nwasuoba, at his shop at Old Aba Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in 2010.
